Home team - Kolkata Knight Riders (2008-present)
Eden Gardens is the largest cricket stadium in India, with a seating capacity of 68,000. It could earlier hold over 1,00,000 cricket fans but after its renovation in 2011, the number came down to 68,000. Shahrukh Khan-owned Kolkata Knight Riders have used Eden Gardens as their home ground since the first season in 2008.
The purple and golden army receives thunderous support at the Eden Gardens with nearly every game attracting jam-pack crowds. It had hosted the final of IPL 2013 and IPL 2015 and co-incidentally, MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings lost to Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians on both the occasions.
Eden Gardens will host its first IPL 2019 fixture this Sunday when the home team Kolkata Knight Riders take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in an afternoon game.
