Video: Ian Botham runs his partner Geoffrey Boycott out on purpose

You must have seen players running their partners out intentionally in gully cricket because your partner sometimes can’t play as fast as required. But you won’t believe this happening at the international stage, would you?

In the second Test between New Zealand and England in 1978, England needed quick runs on the board to win the Test having already lost the first Test. Geoffrey Boycott was batting very slowly, which was his normal style. Ian Botham was sent in as a pinch-hitter by his captain who asked him to run-out Boycott. When the time arrived, Botham called Boycott for a single that didn’t exist and hence, ran out the Yorshireman in the process.
