Video: Mitchell Starc's devastating spell under lights with pink ball leaves SA crumbling at 9/5

Mitchell Starc’s super spell under lights with the pink ball has set the social media alight

Warming up for the Test series against New Zealand to start from the 5th of November, Mitchell Starc exhibited red hot pace and control with the pink ball, bowling for New South Wales against South Australia on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

How cricketers will deal with facing the pink ball under lights is the big question being asked currently, and if Mitchell Starc’s spell of 4/4 is anything to go by, batsmen better watch out.

Batting first, David Warner had a successful return from his thumb injury, scoring 77, as New South Wales posted a first innings total of 262/9 declared.

South Australia’s batting innings got off to a nightmarish start, as Starc ran through the Redbacks lineup – reducing them to 3/3 at stumps on Wednesday. He continued his blistering form on Thursday morning, picking up two more wickets – reducing SA to 9/5 and having his own figures read 4/4.

Starc, who finished with innings figures of 5/28, had able support from Josh Hazlewood (2/20), as the SA innings was wrapped up for 120.

At close of play on Thursday, NSW have raced to a 359-run lead – Warner dismissed for a 30-ball 30, and Steven Smith undefeated at the crease on 103. Smith’s batting partner when play resumes on Friday is Ed Cowan, who is not out on 82.

The thought of Starc racing in to bowl in the second innings must be making the SA batsmen quake in their shoes, and their counterparts in the New Zealand team are probably following developments with considerable fear too.
