Muttiah Muralitharan gets called for chucking for the very first time in international cricket by the now infamous umpire Darrell Hair, who judged his bowling action to be a illegal and hence, against laws of cricket. The controversy bubbled on during the rest of the two days of Australia’s innings, as Murali bowled 32 more overs from umpire Steve Dunne’s end without protest from either Dunne or Hair, who was at square leg. The Sri Lankan camp was outraged after the incident. Sri Lankan cricket fans even coined the now-famous term– ‘Hair or no hair, Murali’s balls are fair.’
