Video: Sachin Tendulkar's maiden international ton at Manchester

When India takes on England in the 4th Test of the 5-match series at Old Trafford in Manchester today, they’ll be ending their 24-year Test-hiatus at the venue.

As incredible as it may seem, the last Test India played here was in 1990, a match made memorable by the first century to come off the bat of a certain 17-year-old Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar.

Sachin never returned to the venue of his first international century in whites, but played 3 ODIs here.

In a match-saving effort in 1990, a young Sachin scored 119 runs off 189 deliveries, striking 17 boundaries in the 2nd innings to get India to safer shores after they were 183/6 in a chase of 408, needing to survive for two and a half hours. Dropped on 10 by spinner Eddie Hemmings, Sachin displayed a wonderful array of classical strokes, wearing the borrowed pads of his idol Sunil Gavaskar, and bringing back the memories of the Mumbai legend for the crowd.

Sachin retired last year after a career full of unbreakable records and incredible feats spanning 24 years, and when Team India takes field against England today, they’ll draw inspiration from the Master’s feat to pounce back after the hammering at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
