On the 13th of January in 2006, during the 1st ODI match of the VB Triangular Series between Australia and Sri Lanka, all-rounder Andrew Symonds was dismissed in an extremely unfortunate manner.
The Sri Lankan team won the toss and chose to field first. The Aussies were in a good position, but lost a few quick wickets. They still had Michael Clarke and Andrew Symonds in the crease with more than ten overs to go.
During the 40th over, Jehan Mubarak was given the ball and what happened next was something no one anticipated. Symonds hit the second ball of the over straight down the ground, but that ball unfortunately hit the non-Striker Clarke’s boots and went straight into the safe hands of Tillakaratne Dilshan at midwicket. Symonds could still afford a smile on his face while walking back while Clarke simply couldn’t believe what transpired in the space of those few seconds.
