Karnataka faced off against Tamil Nadu in the 2013 edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy and came into the contest with a point to prove, having lost all the three matches contested between these two sides in the previous editions of the competition.

Electing to bat first, the Karnataka bowlers did well to restrict TN to just 250 on the board despite half-centuries from Dinesh Karthik (84) and Vijay Shankar (59), as Abhimanyu Mithun was at his best and picked up three wickets.

In reply, a fine start from Robin Uthappa (49) laid the platform for a comfortable win as post the opener's departure, Manish Pandey (81*) and Karun Nair (64*) combined to put up an unbeaten 123-run partnership that helped their side clinch an easy seven-wicket win.

In the most recent encounter between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu as part of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Karnataka demolished the latter to register a 104-run win at Secunderabad in 2014.

Batting first, an unbeaten hundred from Manish Pandey (101*) and a half-century by KL Rahul helped Karnataka to 313 from their allotted 50 overs as cameos from Mayank Agarwal (40) and Vinay Kumar (28) also saw Karnataka grab the momentum ahead of the chase.

Post a top effort with the bat, a top effort from Abhimanyu Mithun, who picked up figures of 4/38 handed Karnataka the advantage early in the second innings, and despite half-centuries from Dinesh Karthik (63) and Yo Mahesh (55), TN folded for just 209 to present Karnataka with a massive 104-run win.
