Kohli and Pujara successors of Sachin and Dravid? Geoffrey Boycott isn't sure

After retirements of two of the greatest cricketers of possibly all time, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, the search for their successors had resulted in Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara being named the next ‘no.3’ and ‘no.4’ of Indian cricket.

But after the failures of both batsmen in England, former England skipper Geoffrey Boycott is not so sure whether both of them can be called the successors of Sachin and Dravid.

Writing for GoCricket, Boycott said, "We were led to believe that these two would take the places vacated by Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, respectively, and those are some pretty big shoes to fill.

“That is why we have been amazed at the way their form seems to have completely abandoned them. Consider this sequence of scores from the two stars: Pujara has scored 28, 43, 24, 2, 0, 17, 4 and 11. Kohli has 1, 8, 25, 0, 39, 28, 0, 7, 6 and 20."

Attributing the reasons as repeated mistakes, he said, “What has been truly disappointing is the way these two gifted young men have repeated their mistakes. Kohli is clearly unaware of his off stump and has been fishing constantly, which you simply can't do against the moving ball, and Pujara's dismissals have been embarrassing, to be honest."

Pointing out their failure in countering the English attack, he opined, "Both Pujara and Kohli have come up against high-quality seam bowling in unfamiliar and, for them, unpleasant conditions. That technical problem, coupled with their mental state, has contributed to their current poor run."

Although Kohli showed some spark in yesterday’s match, there are a hell lot of efforts required to get back the lost reputation.
