During his match-winning innings of 136 against Bangladesh in Fatullah last night, Virat Kohli set his name in the record books, becoming the fastest batsman to reach the milestone of 19 centuries in ODI cricket.
As Kohli dabbed the delivery to the third man for a single to reach the 3-figure mark for a 19th time, he equalled the great Brian Charles Lara in the list cricketers who have scored most number of centuries in this format.
The biggest achievement though for Kohli was the fact that it took him only 124 innings to achieve this feat. Before him, the next fastest to hit 19 hundreds was West Indian Chris Gayle, who played 65 more innings to reach that landmark.
Sachin Tendulkar, the highest run-getter and century maker in this format, made his 19th ODI hundred after 194 innings, whereas Pakistan’s Saeed Anwar took 208 innings to get there.
