Massive drama was played out in the 34th over on Day 3 of the ongoing Test in Delhi, when Virat Kohli refused to walk after being given out by the umpire, bringing about a tense situation, which was anti-climactically resolved after it was found out that the bowler had overstepped.

Dane Vilas appealed after Kohli appeared to edge a leg break from Imran Tahir, and umpire Bruce Oxenford’s finger went up. Kohli looked stunned and stood for a while with his hands on his hips, giving the umpire a glare.

It was then that Ajinkya Rahane stepped into his batting partner and captain’s rescue. He was keeping a check on the front foot of the bowler, and asked the umpire to check for a no ball fault.

While the replay was coming on, Kohli was gesturing angrily, pointing out that there was a massive gap between bat and ball.

In a comical turn of events, replays showed not only that Tahir had overstepped, but also that Kohli had not got any bat on the delivery after all. However, his reaction remains condemnable and is likely to attract a fine from the Match Referee.

Kohli was adjudged not out, and the Kotla erupted. He had a quick chat with the umpire after the decision was overturned.
