Virender Sehwag impressed by KL Rahul's Dabang giri

It’s becoming a habit of the former swashbuckling opener Virender Sehwag to wish his fellow cricketers on their birthdays and special occasions. Now he has called Lokesh Rahul “bhoonka batsman” (hungry batsman) after the latter reached his 3rd Test century with a big six. It was just after Rahul’s century that Viru took to twitter to congratulate him on his century and also praised him for scoring all 3 centuries outside India. This is what Sehwag had to say,

Virender Sehwag was one of the most carefree and destructive batsman of his time and his daredevil attitude towards approaching the game made him different from other greats. He never seemed to care for his wicket and always backed his instincts. If the ball was in his range he would go hard at it. He had the habit of scoring centuries, double centuries and triple centuries with a six and this by itself is a huge achievement.

The centurion, Lokesh Rahul thanked Viru acknowledging the originator of the art of hitting sixes to bring up landmarks. Lokesh Rahul has been a consistent run-getter in the domestic circuit and he is a man for big runs.

When he gets in he goes on to make big scores and it is evident even from his Test record, where he has scored 3 Test centuries but in the rest eight-innings he has been unable to go beyond 16. A batsman must be judged on how good he is on his day and Rahul has surely proved that on his given day he has the ability to adapt under any circumstances. He also knows how to play the waiting game and accelerate when required.

Making his Test debut against Australia in Melbourne, Rahul was disappointing in his first match but immediately followed it up with a fighting century at Sydney. He wasn’t successful in other innings but in the next tour to Sri Lanka, he scored another stroke-filled century. In his short career, he has been an impact player. He was earlier cited as a Test specialist but he made a fairytale ODI debut after a brilliant IPL. He became the 1st Indian batsman to score a century on his ODI debut.

After his century against West Indies in the ongoing Test he has surely sealed his place for the next Test and it remains to be seen that after Vijay’s arrival who gets axed from the team.
