Former Indian captain MS Dhoni received a stunning standing ovation from the fans at the MCG during the third ODI when he walked to bat for probably the last time in Australia. It may not be unusual for the player of MS Dhoni stature as wherever he goes his fans follow him like honey and bee. But, it was a special occasion for the 37-year-old as he may not be touring anymore to Australia in the future. Or, perhaps, as speculation says, he'd hang his boots after the World Cup.
It was a mesmerising moment for the Dhoni fans. The similar kind of scenes could take any cricket lover to the 2011 World Cup final where he walked out to bat at no. 5 ahead of the in-form Yuvraj Singh and the entire world on its feet. However, it was not any World Cup final at MCG the other day, but the series was definitely on the line and seeing Dhoni coming at no.4 couldn't stop his fans to shower their love upon their best player of the generation.
Coming into the series, Dhoni was questioned by my many cricket pundits for his deterring finishing abilities, slow strike-rate and taking games deep when it could be finished earlier. Despite facing such harsh criticism, Dhoni never seemed affected by any of these this series. He knew his game, backed his ability and took home the Man of the Series award for his three consecutive half-centuries out of which two came in a winning cause.
Where should MS Dhoni bat? At no. 4 or no. 5? The question is still hot. Virat Kolhi has backed MS Dhoni for no. 5 whereas vice-captain Rohit Sharma thinks Dhoni shall come little up in the batting order at no. 4. Meanwhile, Dhoni has cleared his intention to play at any no. as per the team's requirement or the situation demands.
Rather than what future holds for MS Dhoni, its time for his fans to celebrate the resurrection of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and shower their love every time he comes to bat wearing blue.
