The ODI series between West Indies and England was poised to tilt one way or the other, but weather played spoilsport. Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to bowl first before the match was washed out due to rain.
There was persistent rain at St. George's Stadium in Grenada, Guyana on Monday, eliminating any possibility of play. It was not an ideal result for either team as the series is still tied at 1-1 after West Indies stunned the No. 1 ranked ODI side England in the second ODI by 26 runs at Bridgetown, Barbados.
The rain stopped mid-way through the day, and the umpires decided that a 42 overs a side match could be played. But then the rain arrived again, reducing the match further to 30 overs each. But before the players could take the field, the rains came down yet again - and this time the match was called off.
Ben Stokes had been ruled out of the third ODI due to an ankle injury and Alex Hales had come into the team as his replacement. Meanwhile, Andre Russell has been recalled into the West Indies squad for the remaining two ODIs to be played on 27th February at Guyana and 3rd March at St. Lucia.
Both the two matches so far have been high-scoring affairs. The first match saw West Indies score 360 for 8 at the end of 50 overs, and in reply, England chased down the massive target with 8 balls to spare.
West Indies came back strongly in the second ODI. Thanks to Shimron Hetmyer's century, the hosts posted 289 for 6 at the end of 50 overs. Sheldon Cottrell then picked up his best figures in ODI cricket which helped West Indies win the match by 26 runs to level the series 1-1.
