West Indies are set to host the English lions for the second ODI at Kensington Oval, Barbados. Chasing down 360 runs in the first ODI, England once again showed the world why they are a serious contender for the upcoming ICC World Cup.
The visitors won the match comfortably with six wickets and eight balls to spare. Windies would be hoping for a better bowling display in the second ODI. We can expect another run-fest in Barbados when two batting powerhouses will collide with each other on a flat track.
Having lost the test series by 2-1, England needed to start the ODI series on a positive note. They exhibited sheer class in the opening match while chasing a daunting target of 360 runs on the board. After English bowlers were hit all around the park in the first innings, it was now up to the batsmen to take them over the line. Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow did just what the doctor ordered to give the visitors a flying start.
The duo added 91 runs for the opening partnership in only 11 overs. Joe Root also played an exceptional knock under pressure to bring up his 14th ODI century. He along with the skipper Eoin Morgan made sure that England were never behind the required run-rate. The ICC World no 1 ODI side will look to seal the ODI series in the upcoming matches to boost their confidence ahead of the World Cup.
On the other hand, West Indies must be really disappointed to be on the losing side after such a dominant performance with the bat in first innings. The visitors were thumped by the ‘Gayle Strom’ as he registered another fantastic ton.
After a slow start, he soon shifted gears to score 135 runs off 129 balls to take his team over the mark of 350 runs. However, the bowling department let the hosts down once again. England chased down a massive score with quite an ease, which showed the weakness in the WIndies bowling lineup. The home side would be hoping to land a counter punch in the second ODI to level the series.
