Performance of West Indian Young Batsmen
The rich vein of form that Shai Hope found towards the end of last year in ODI cricket contrasts heavily with his returns in Tests. By scoring a good half-century in the first game, he has suggested that, at least, in this format, he has found his groove. But can he continue?
Similarly, Shimron Hetmyer has impressed recently with his batting and, unlike Hope, is performing well in both ODIs and Tests. His aggression is high-quality but does he have the ability to adjust to conditions and not throw his wicket away with expansive shots? This is another important question that will be explored.
Evin Lewis’ injury has given a great opportunity to John Campbell who impressed everyone with his stroke-play in the Tests. However, Lewis’ devastating style of play has made him an important member of the team and replacing him for the long term at the top of the innings would require something special from Campbell. He certainly has the talent for it.
Carlos Brathwaite is another player who is looking to cement his place in the team. Remembered only for his heroics in the World T20 Final of 2016, his performances otherwise have been ordinary. He has another opportunity to show his mettle.
