Former Indian captain MS Dhoni was famous for his unorthodox shots on the cricket field. While Dhoni would use his unorthodox techniques more in the white-ball formats, at times, he even played some unique shots in red-ball cricket.
Back in December 2010, when India toured South Africa for a three-match Test series, Dhoni captained the visiting team. The visitors had a horrible start to the series as they were bowled out for 136 in the first innings of the opening Test. In reply, South Africa scored 620/4 declared.
Trailing by a massive 484 runs, India slumped to 277/6 in their second innings. Captain MS Dhoni walked out to bat at number eight, joining a well-set Sachin Tendulkar in the middle. Tendulkar and Dhoni stitched together a 172-run seventh-wicket partnership.
During that stand, Dhoni hit a unique-looking backfoot punch off Jacques Kallis' bowling. While it seemed like the Indian team would just get a single for that shot, the ball ended up crossing the boundary line for four, leaving the bowler Kallis stunned.
Watch the clip here:
Fielder Morne Morkel tried to save the ball from going for four, but he could not do so. Dhoni had a smile on his face as he came near Tenndulkar for a brief chat when the ball went to the boundary.
MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar's partnership ended in a losing cause
As mentioned ahead, Dhoni and Tendulkar added 172 runs for the seventh wicket in the second innings of the Test against South Africa in December 2010. However, their efforts went in vain as India got all out for 459, losing the Test by an innings and 25 runs.
MS Dhoni got out on 90, caught behind off Dale Steyn's bowling. Tendulkar remained not out on 111 and ran out of partners eventually.
India won the second Test and the third Test ended in a stalemate as the three-match series ended in a 1-1 draw.
