Corbin Bosch made a dream Test debut for South Africa in the ongoing match against Pakistan at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. The talented all-rounder picked up his maiden Test wicket on his first ball in the format.
Bosch induced an edge off Pakistan captain Shan Masood, who was caught in the slips by Marco Jansen, heading back for 17 off 58.
Bosch also made his ODI debut recently, in the last match of the three-match series against Pakistan in Johannesburg. He returned with figures of 1/69 and a 40-run knock in a losing cause.
The 30-year-old made his domestic debut in 2014 for the Titans. He has since garnered 2,505 runs and picked up 158 wickets in domestic cricket across formats.
On that note, let's take a look at the five interesting facts about Proteas' newest sensation, Corbin Bosch.
#1 His father was part of South Africa's 1992 World Cup squad
Corbin Bosch's late father Tertius began his domestic career in the summer of 1986-87. Five years later, he was part of South Africa's 1992 World Cup squad, and was among the fastest pacers in the country.
However, he returned wicketless in his two appearances in the competition. He then played a solitary Test the same year against West Indies and picked up three wickets.
However, as per ESPNCricinfo, Tertius died under mysterious circumstances at the age of 33. At that point, Corbin was just five years old.
#2 Corbin Bosch's mother helped his two sons become professional cricketers
Corbin's brother Eathan Bosch is also a professional cricketer. He made his domestic debut in 2010 and so far has scalped 203 wickets and amassed more than 2,000 runs.
As per Eathan, their mother played an important part in him and his brother becoming professional cricketers after their father died.
"I take my hat off to my mum. She had two boys that were crazy sports fanatics that just did sport after sport after sport. We owe a lot to her because she would take us to extra lessons, whether it was cricket, swimming, hockey, anything," Eathan was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
"And the amount of backyard cricket we used to play was absolutely ridiculous. We broke tiles because of the amount of times we would tap the bats on a certain spot. No matter where we went, we always found a place to play some garden cricket," he added.
#3 Went to school and played U19 World Cup with Aiden Markram
Corbin Bosch attended Pretoria Boys High School with South Africa batter Aiden Markram. He then played in the 2014 U19 World Cup alongside Kagiso Rabada under the leadership of Markram.
Bosch was named the Player of the Match in the final against Pakistan for his figures of 4/15, as the Proteas secured the title. Meanwhile, Markram was the team's top-scorer with 370 runs and Rabada was the most successful bowler for the Proteas with 14 wickets in the tournament.
#4 Moved to Brisbane for better opportunities
After failing to secure contracts from his club side, Corbin Bosch moved to Brisbane, Australia in 2016 in search of better playing opportunities. He managed to play for Northern Suburbs Districts and spent time with former Australian players, Andy Bichel and Phil Jaques.
However, he didn't envision a big career out of this stint. As a result, he returned to South Africa and made his first-class debut for the Titans in 2017.
#5 Was part of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022
Corbin Bosch was named as a replacement player for the injured Nathan Coulter-Nile by the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season.
However, the all-rounder couldn't represent the side and was released by the Royals ahead of the 2023 season.
