Rohit Singh has grabbed the headlines by scoring a magnificent half-century in the T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier match against Gibraltar. Playing for Germany in their opening game of the 2026 T20 World Cup Sub Regional Europe Qualifier, Singh smashed 58 runs off just 33 balls.
The match was held earlier today in Krefeld, where Gibraltar won the toss and opted to field first. The decision backfired as Germany posted a 183-run total on the board. Rohit Singh, also known as Harmanjot Singh, top-scored with 58, and he also picked up a wicket in the second innings.
Gibraltar managed 139/6 in 20 overs and lost the match by 44 runs. Rohit unsurprisingly won the Man of the Match award for his all-round brilliance in the 2026 T20 World Cup Sub Regional Europe Qualifier game. In this listicle, we will look at five interesting facts to know about Germany's hero.
#1 Rohit Singh made his T20I debut 5 years ago
Although not many cricket fans would know about Rohit, the 30-year-old made his T20I debut back on May 11, 2019. It was in a T20I match against Belgium hosted by Waterloo.
Playing his first T20I match, debutant Rohit smashed a match-winning 27-ball 39* in a low-scoring game at the Royal Brussels Club Cricket Ground. Germany defended a 129-run target and won by nine runs.
#2 Rohit Singh played a T20I match after almost one year
Germany do not play international cricket regularly, but they have participated in multiple bilateral series and tournaments of late. Before the 2026 T20 World Cup Sub Regional Europe Qualifier, Rohit's last T20I appearance came on August 14, 2023, when he played against Guernsey.
Rohit played two T20Is on the same day. He neither batted nor bowled in the first game, while in the next match, he scored 18 runs. Despite returning to the T20I arena after almost a year, Rohit produced a match-winning performance.
#3 Rohit Singh has been playing professional cricket for more than a decade
Singh made his T20I debut in 2019, but his professional cricket journey started long back. Born on January 6, 1994, Singh played for Germany at the U-17 level in early 2010s.
He made his debut at the senior level in 2019, and so far, he has represented Germany in 33 T20Is, scoring 523 runs, including two half-centuries. He took his maiden T20I wicket earlier today, when he dismissed Gibraltar's Michael Raikes.
#4 Rohit Singh has played against 10 different nations already
Very few international level cricketers get a chance to compete against 10 different teams in a span of five years, but Rohit has already achieved this feat. Gibraltar was the 10th team against whom Rohit played an international game.
Before that, he has represented Germany against Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, Guernsey, Jersey, Norway, and Spain. His best batting performance came against France in 2021, where he scored an unbeaten 68.
#5 Rohit has mastered the art of batting at number 5
Batting at number five in T20I cricket is a difficult thing for any batter. The reason behind that is the batter may have to play slow when the team loses early wickets on a day, while he would have to smash big hits straightaway if the top-order batters provide a solid start.
Rohit has done a phenomenal job for Germany at number five. He has batted seven times at this position, aggegating 191 runs at an average of 47.75 and a strike rate of 140.44.
