It was a dream day for the batsmen in the first ODI between England and West Indies at Barbados. West Indies captain Jason Holder won the toss and elected to bat first. The home team had a slow start, but then picked up the pace later.
Jamaican batsman, Chris Gayle made his return to the team with a stunning show. He starred in the innings in his usual way. Gayle took the first 12 runs in singles and didn't hit even a single boundary in the first power play. Then began the assault, as the Jamaican began hitting sixes out of the ground. Hope, Hetmyer, and Bravo gave him their full support, as Chris Gayle registered his 24th ODI century. West Indies posted a record total of 360 runs.
In reply, England's Jason Roy and Root smashed a century each, which helped the visitors chase their highest ever score in ODI cricket history. There were a few world records broken during the match. Let's take a look at three of them:
#1 First cricketer to hit 100 Sixes against a team

Before the game, Indian opener Rohit Sharma held the record of hitting the most number of sixes against an opponent in international cricket. Rohit had registered 89 sixes against Australia.
Yesterday, when Gayle smashed the second six of his innings, he took back the record from Rohit at 90 sixes against England. The tall Jamaican didn't stop there, as he kept hitting sixes. Finally, he ended his innings with 12 Sixes to his name.
Thus, he became the first cricketer to smash 100 sixes against an opponent in international cricket. However, the feat might be broken soon, as Rohit is set to play seven international matches against Australia before the World Cup 2019.
#2. Most sixes in an innings by a team

The West Indies cricketers are known for hitting sixes in any given form of cricket. It was clearly evident during yesterday's game. The pummelling started off with the openers, and the feat was continued by every West Indian batsman who came in to bat.
Chris Gayle alone smashed 12 sixes in the innings. The left-handed Darren Bravo smashed four sixes, while Nurse smashed three sixes. Four other players smashed one six each. In total, they hit 23 sixes in the innings. It was the most number of sixes hit by any team in an ODI innings.
Windies broke the record of New Zealand, who had smashed 22 sixes in 2014, with Corey Anderson smashing 14 sixes in that match. It was the West Indies at the receiving side during that time. They also now hold the record for hitting the most number of sixes in a losing cause.
#3 Most international Sixes

Chris Gayle had already equaled Shahid Afridi's record of most international sixes long ago. Both were at 476 sixes each. Finally, the Jamaican born left-hander got the opportunity to surpass that record. When he hit Moeen Ali for a six in the 15th over, he broke the record of hitting the most number of sixes in international cricket.
Afridi's long withstanding record now finally stands broken. Gayle now has 98 sixes in Tests, 287 Sixes in ODI and 103 sixes in T20I cricket. In total, he now has amassed a total of 488 sixes.
He recently announced that he will retire from international cricket after the 2019 World Cup. However, before he retires, the left-hander has a bright opportunity to become the first cricketer smash 500 sixes in international cricket. Moreover, Gayle also needs only eight more sixes to become the first cricketer to smash 300 sixes in IPL.
It sums up the six-hitting ability of the universal boss known as Chris Gayle.
