#1 Most runs by an Indian captain in a single season

At the end of the 2003 World Cup, Sourav Ganguly's domination of the opposition bowling attack saw the southpaw register 465 runs from just 11 matches, at an average of 58.12 including three centuries and one half-century, earning him the record of most runs in a single edition for an Indian captain.
Indian skipper for the World Cup 2019 Virat Kohli will be looking to make a mark in this edition, with the upset of the Champions Trophy and could be expected to lead from the front with his excellent skill on the batting front.
From 17 World Cup matches, Kohli has a total of 587 runs, averaging 41.92 and will be keen to better his record and also lead India to yet another title victory. While the record might not be of prime focus for the Indian skipper, his batsmanship could see him smash the long standing record at the end of the tournament.
