South Africa were beaten comfortably at the Kennington Oval as the hosts began their World Campaign in spectacular fashion. The Proteas had their moments of excellence as the bowlers kept the English batsmen on their toes, but overall there were plenty of areas of improvement.

The South African batsmen struggled against the English bowlers and never really looked comfortable while chasing the target of 312. And ardent followers of the team would re-assert that the Proteas are yet to find a replacement for AB de Villiers in the lineup.

De Villiers was a solid presence in South Africa's middle order, and his name on the team sheet was enough to frighten any opposition. But without him, South Africa look incomplete. They to sort out their batting issues if they are to reach the knockout phase of the tournament.
