India - KL Rahul
Leading up to the World Cup, there was much talk about India’s No.4 batting slot. Multiple players were tried at this position in last two years, but none them could stamp their authority for the role.
Until six months back, Ambati Rayudu seemed a certainty at this position, but his form dwindled at last moment and the Indian selectors decided to pick Vijay Shankar ahead of him.
However, KL Rahul shone in the warm-up game against Bangladesh and seems to have booked the No.4 spot. Rahul stroked a sublime 108 off just 99 balls to help his team recover after they were reduced to 50-2. Rahul's innings featured 12 fours and four sixes.
Rahul seems to have the perfect game for this role – he can consolidate if India lose early wickets, while he also has the power-game to pick up the scoring rate in the latter half of the innings. With immense talent at his disposal, Rahul will look to dominate against a varied South African bowling unit.
