A BCCI Official confirmed that Gary Kirsten is not keen on extending his current contract with the BCCI to continue his tenure as the coach of the Indian Cricket Team.
The World Cup is expected to be the last tournament for him as coach and he is likely to leave his post once it gets over.
Kirsten led India to victories against Australia and New Zealand recently and will be allowed to continue if he wishes to but the South African wants to spend more time with his family and it is highly unlikely that he will remain the coach after the World Cup.
This is not really surprising because he has expressed his thoughts about wanting to be with his family before. Indian Captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has come out saying that the team will be respecting Kirsten’s decision no matter what it is.
Kirsten has spent three years with the Indian team and has hardly had time to go back home to his wife and two sons as India have been going around the World winning trophies.
However, the BCCI are “doing everything in their power” to keep Kirsten.
“He has given our side whatever he could, the best he could, and of course it was a pleasure to have him in the side, but then again it is a decision he will have to take. More than the cricketing part, it will be his family that will have a real impact on the decision” said MS Dhoni in a Press Conference before the ODI series with South Africa.
There have been reports about Kirsten being linked with coaching the South African team. CSA have extended their deadline from January 7 to February 18 and this has led to more speculation about him taking the job. However, he is not expected to take any international job soon.
