Mumbai - Sunil Ghadge snatched the decider with exquisite shots to lead Central Railway Mumbai Institute ‘Star Blue’ into the semifinals of The Zarine and Yazdi Daruvala Charitable Trust Mumbai Billiards League at the Dadar Parsee Colony Gymkhana on Thursday.

Ghadge’s vintage display helped him reach his target of 187 that left Percy Patel stranded, as CRMI ‘Star Blue’ halted Matunga Gymkhana ‘Canons’ with a 758-691 win. Philip Daniel gave ‘Star Blue’ a brilliant start before Darshan Shah brought ‘Canons’ back into contention in the second tie that left Ghadge a stiff target.

In the other quarterfinal, CCI ‘Billiards Boys’ rolled on as they prevailed over a fighting Bombay Gymkhana ‘Phantoms’ 685-655 in a thriller.

Satbir Narula reached a modest target of 112 with some impressive shots against Aditya Agrawal in the decider, but not before surviving some anxious moments. With a target of 200, Agrawal fired a timely break of 41 that gave Narula a fright, but tantalisingly fell short by just 29 points.

Quarterfinal results: CRMI ‘Star Blue’ beat Matunga Gym ‘Canons’ 758-691; CCI ‘Billiards Boys’ beat Bombay Gym ‘Phantoms’ 685-655.
