Mulheim (Germany), Oct 5 (IANS) India’s Pankaj Advani and Aditya Mehta lost their sixth round matches in the Ruhr Open snooker tournament here Saturday to opponents who will be participating the Indian Open later this month.
Advani from Bangalore went down 2-4 to Barry Hawkins while Mehta squandered a 3-2 lead to lose 3-4 to Stephen McGuire who put in breaks of 101 and 75 in the sixth and seventh frames to wrap up the match.
Earlier in the match, Mumbai‘s Mehta took the first, fourth (59 break) and fifth (50 break) frames, before McGuire came surging back to eliminate the Indian.
Advani faded away after taking the first frame as Hawkins took the second and third on breaks of 69 and 63 before winning a close fourth on the colours for a 3-1 lead. The Indian pocketed the fifth, but Hawkins posted a 56 to take the sixth for the match.
In the previous rounds, Advani had beaten Barry Pinches 4-1 and the legendary Jimmy White 4-2 while Mehta had got past Kevin Van Hove 4-1 and Marcus Campbell 4-3.
