Carlow (Ireland), Oct 5 (IANS) Making their debut in the World 6-Red snooker championships, both the Indian women’s teams reached the semifinals here.
The pairing of Chitra Magimairaj and Varsha Sanjeev, playing her first international event, defeated Thailand 2-0 in the quarterfinals while the team of Vidya Pillai and Arantxa Sanchis overcame Hong Kong 2-1 to also enter the semis Friday.
Meanwhile, in the women’s singles, the trio of Pillai, Sanjeev and Magimairaj lost in their respective pre-quarter-final matches.
In the men’s team event, both the Indian pairs made their exit. While Shivam Arora and Shahbaaz Adil Khan went down 2-3 to Iran in the pre-quarter-finals, Manan Chandra and Brijesh Damani, who had beaten Australia 3-1, eventually lost to Pakistan 0-3.
In the men’s singles, Shahbaaz Adil Khan beat Ger De Laney (Ireland) 4-3, while Laxman Rawat lost to Michael Zielinski (Poland) 1-4, Shivam Arora beat Wanyne Morgan (Wales) 4-0 and Manan Chandra edged out Mateuz Baranowski (Poland) 4-3.
