Sebastiaan Bowier of the Netherlands claims that he has broken the record for the World Human Powered Speed Challenge in Nevada, according to a report on BBC.
The recumbent bicycle, designed by Delft University and VU University Amsterdam, reached a speed 133.78 kilometres per hour (83.13 miles per hour) on a desert road in Nevada as Bowier rode it.
The wheels and frame of the bicycle are enclosed in a streamlined chassis which is coated with the same material as Formula 1 cars.
Bowier broke the previous record, which was held by Canada’s Sam Wittingham, by 0.5 kilometres per hour. Wittingham reached a speed of 133.28 kilometres per hour (82.82 mph) on a streamlined recumbent bicycle in 2009.
