Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso who failed to buy Spanish cycling team Euskaltel-Euskadi is all set to re-ignite his desire to own a cycling team after the driver’s manager revealed that the Spaniard is likely to launch a new team at Tour de France.
“Some agreements with sponsors are already signed. While the launch date for the 2015 project is already set: The first rest day of the next Tour (de France),”said Alonso’s manager Luis Garcia Abad.
“Fernando has said he wants to bring the better of formula one to cycling, and vice versa. This means technology, research, marketing, promotion, new tools such as telemetry, a medical centre. The intention is to do something new and avoid the problem of doping,” Abad added.
Abad also added that Ferrari sponsor Banco Santander will not be a sponsor for the cycling team.
“It’s better to keep the business of F1 and cycling separate,” he said.
