The World champion Mark Cavendish has confirmed he will be riding for Team Sky in the 2012. The deal is believed to be the most expensive in the history of the cycling and will run from 2012 until the end of 2014. Cavendish admitted that it was a difficult choice in deciding between two offers, although he didn’t named the other squad. The 26-year-old British has enjoyed the most successful season of his career this year following a world title victory in September.
“I’m really delighted to join Team Sky. It’s been a lengthy process but I had to take my time and make the right decision for my own personal and professional ambitions. I had two flattering offers to consider and it was a difficult one, but I felt at the end of the day that Team Sky was the right next move in my career to win more bike races. I just want to win races and ride as fast as I can,” said Cavendish.
Bernhard Eisel has followed Mark Cavendish to sign with Team Sky, who for the last five years is close friend of Cavendish and has ridden alongside at team HTC-Highroad. While talking about new team, riders and past experience, Cavendish said:
“I’m really familiar with the team and my coach Rod Ellingworth is there, so it fits really well. I’m also happy to bring Bernie Eisel with me as well. I’m looking forward to another big year in a Team Sky jersey.”
