Team Astana will be hoping their leader Alberto Contador to win this year’s Tour de France

Skoda has revealed that it will be the title sponsor as well as the ‘official auto partner’ of 2013 Tour de France.

This will be the tenth time in a row that the Czech car manufacturers have partnered with the race.

Skoda will supply 250 cars forthe tour organizers ASO and other partners for the centennial edition of the race, which is slated to begin in Corsica on Saturday.

The company will also launch an elaborate social media and internet campaign, including the broadcast of a specially edited clip that coins together the sequences that features Skoda’s involvement in the tour.

Winifried Vahland, Skoda’s chief executive, explained: “Our longstanding partnership with the world’s number one cycling event underlines Skoda’s close relationship with cycling. The fact that Skoda has been sponsoring the Tour de France for ten years, and that we can also celebrate this 100th anniversary is really something very special. Supporting the Tour de France and other cycling events is also an expression of our company’s tradition spanning the past 118 years. The company’s success story began in December 1895 with the production of bicycles by our founding fathers, Laurin und Klement.

“Cycling is a highly dynamic sport that attracts millions of people worldwide,” said Werner Eichhorn, Skoda board member for sales and marketing. “It fits perfectly with the Skoda brand.”
