Forza Horizon 2 Review - Festival of speed

The game has received positive reviews from all quarters

Forza Horizon 2 offers a stunning environment that feels more like a tourist spot than a game location. The game being released for Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles on September 30th, takes place in the fictional “Horizon Festival”, which is moved to Southern Europe from Colorado, which brings a much larger playspace than in the previous game. The map spans around French and Italian cities complete with the spaces in between roads. fields, cliffsides and long tunnels.

New Experience

The great thing about Forza Horizon 2 is that you are not limited to the normal roads alone. As long as your car can take it, you can pretty much go wherever you want. The game events are set in Provence,Tuscany and among other regions, players will have to explore these regions by taking part in races and special events in order to progress in the game.

The game developers were zeroing on from over 30 locations which included California and Australia. But, ultimately choosing South Europe as the creative head cited all racing games were set on North America and the Southern Europe “felt new, different and gives a fresh look” .

All the events are tied to the different type of cars, ranging from super cars to SUV’s , it takes around 15 championships to reach the ‘Horizon finale’. However, with almost 170 championships spanning under 700 events, it keeps you busy even after reaching finale. The Long trips are the highlights of Forza Hroizon 2, which makes you re-live the serenic beauty of Italian and French hills. The new cross country racing adds a new dimension to the game’s racing.

Stunning graphics of a spot in Southern Europe

Gaining XP points for drifting, drafting, near misses makes the game all the more interesting. These XP points help you increase the overall levels, add perks, and a random lucky dip called ‘Wheelspin’ is available after you level up everytime, the players get random rewards like credits and much more. Events like plane crashes received minor updates from the previous game. A barrage of fighter jets with multicoloured trails are rolling above your head while you rush to the finish line, makes one of the best set piece events in this game. There are many other set piece events that you will discover while playing the game.

While starting the game, players are required to take on a road trip to the game’s home base, by choosing the default starter vehicles to familiarize the controls, which makes easier when progressing through the game.The Handling of the cars are faultless on the roads, but when sliding through mud and dirt, it is difficult to handle the controls. The sound for the game is excellent and gives a realistic touch to the cars.

Forza Horizon 2 has some of the best graphics you will ever see in the Xbox One. The cars and the scenary are absolutely stunning. The new weather effects, day/night cycle adds visual beauty when riding around.

Things to do when you are not racing:

Southern Europe is a big place to roam filled with massive straightways, tight switchbacks and tons of things to do which makes it a sure go if you are looking to take a break from the championship.

• Speed Cameras are located all over the areas of France and Italy, when you see one, make sure you register the fastest speed in your car.
• The all new Bucket Challenges are awesome and brilliant. You will get a new car to complete these callenges. There are two list of challenges one for France and other Italy. It has been confirmed that these challenges will be updated to provide new challenges throughout the map. These challenges varies from time trials, near miss targets and many more.
• Barn Finds – This feature enables the players to roam and identify several abandoned barns hidden across the French and Italian countrysides. Each barn has an unique vintage car waiting to be picked up!
• Car Meets – This new feature is an online mode where players can meet, interact and compare their cars, including sharing tuning setups and liveries.

Verdict

Despite some minor issues, this game should be considered a definite purchase for all the racing fans as it has all the racing actions, stunning graphics, stronger multiplayer events, packed into a single punch which offers loads of fun.
