Hearts of Iron IV – Tank Production

Hearts of Iron IV is a grand strategy game set in the time period leading up to and during the World War 2. The game is being developed by Paradox Development Studio and is set for a release on PC in early 2015.

From the recent exploits, it appears the game is nearing a stage at which more gameplay from the engine can be revealed with time. In what is an interesting move, the Paradox guys have decided to showcase the production of tanks in the game.

The in-game footage that can be seen in the trailer is still completely “alpha footage,” but its starting to look good and promising too. A comparison with games like Total War might be a little unrealistic at the moment.

However, it isn’t out of the question now with a lot of details being shown on the map such as cities, ports, forests and factories. Well, the trailer is more of a history lesson about tanks of WWII with depiction of the clever intertwining of history and game mechanics.

Tanks won’t be so different from rest of the game equipments

While the majority of the talk is about the production of tanks, one can imagine that the principles of the game underlines the fact that tanks won’t be too different from the rest of the military equipment available in the game.

You will face many decisions such as whether you ought to merely upgrade your current model of tank, whether to create a brand new one or just pump out your, potentially obsolete or tanks in hopes of overwhelming your enemies with numbers.

It is more than likely that, unless you have a very large economy and production capacity, you will be unable to do all 3 simultaneously. The video also discusses other factors that will affect the production of tanks such as the limited availability of rare resources like Tungsten, which you might need to trade for, unless you are in the conquering mood.

You will also have to think about maximising the efficiency of tanks by taking advantage of your experiences in the smaller wars.

For now, the game looks just fine and it’s looking like it might just be as deep as its predecessors.
