Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain structure explained

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, is an upcoming open world action-adventure stealth video game developed by Kojima Productions. The director and co-writer of the game, Hideo Kojima has explained how the entire game is structured in episode 26 of his Kojima Station video webcast.

As known by most fans, the game will be a continuation of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Players can freely roam wherever they want, although things will change when you accept a mission. When you accept a mission, there will be a specific area that you will have to hang around in. If you procrastinate and run away, you will fail the mission. This might mean you are able to free roam in some of the game locations in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain if you are not doing a mission. It’s possible you can only do this in levels you have already unlocked however. Still, this free roam concept is new to the Metal Gear franchise. A small taste of it was seen with this year’s release of Ground Zeroes.

The game is currently in development for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One with a release expected sometime in 2015.
