After the release of the World of Warcraft’s fifth expansion last week, developer and publisher Blizzard Entertainment has announced that the game has officially passed 10 million subscribers. Thus proving that it’s still the ruling king of the MMO section. Reportedly, Blizzard sold more than 3.3million copies of the expansion in the first 24 hours of its release for $49.99 for a standard copy (That’s quite alot for the sales record of a game expansion). Even though there are other well known MMO games like League of Legends, Forbes site has mentioned that in 2013 World of Warcraft still commanded 36% market share and was bringing in over $1 billion a year.
Regarding this huge success, Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment has said; "We poured a lot of hard work and passion into this expansion, and we appreciate all the kind words from players and the overwhelming support they continue to show for World of Warcraft."
While the release of Warlords of Draenor may have been unstable, Activision-Blizzard has given out free game time as an apology for over-taxed servers. The expansion is still one of the best-selling games of the year. It brings updated character models, a higher level cap, and tons of new content to the table, and it avoids the addition of giant pandas, which many players were not too happy with in the game’s previous expansion, Mists of Pandoria.
For the Horde!!
