Kinich is a new 5-Star character released in the second half of Genshin Impact 5.0. He is a Dendro DPS unit who scales off ATK and functions best in Burning/Burgeon team comps. Being a character from Natlan, his kit mechanics revolve around Nightsoul and Phlogiston. Each character from the region has special Nightsoul-oriented traversal mechanics, and Kinich is no exception.

Kinich belongs to the Scions of the Canopy tribe. He shares some similarites with the tribe's representative Saurian, the Yumkasaurus.

Kinich's Elemental Skill lets him use a grappling hook to traverse distances, similar to the Yumkasaurs. This makes him an excellent character for exploration, as he can travel across the map in a relatively short period of time and with much ease.

This article discusses the best ways to use Kinich for exploration in Natlan, keeping the region's Nightsoul and Phlogiston mechanics in mind.

3 ways to use Kinich for exploring in Genshin Impact

1) Make extensive use of his Elemental Skill

Kinich's Elemental Skill is his bread and butter in Genshin Impact, both in terms of exploration and combat. It can be used to fire a grappling hook in the air, following which the character performs a high swing, traversing a considerable distance. This is the most basic way to use the unit in exploration and can come in handy for covering large areas without having to constantly sprint.

Keep in mind that Kinich performs his mid-air swing only when there are no enemies nearby. If there are enemy targets nearby, he fires his grappling hook and latches on to the opponent instead.

2) Keep an eye on his Phlogiston bar

Like all Natlan characters, Kinich also has a Phlogiston bar above his HP bar, through which you can track how much Phlogiston he has.

As long as Kinich has sufficient remaining Phlogiston, you can use his Elemental Skill a second time to perform another mid-air swing. The second swing will consume 10 Phlogiston points, so you you need to have a minimum amount of Phlogiston to use his Elemental Skill twice in quick succession.

This ability to swing twice in mid-air is the same as that of the Yumkasaurs, whom you can also use to perform two consecutive swings in mind-air, provided you have sufficient Phlogiston points. However, Kinich's swings are higher, and he can traverse a greater distance in one swing as compared to the Yumkasaurs, making him a great character for exploration.

3) Make use of Coilgrass Sigils

When you use Kinich's Elemental Skill, he will fire a grappling hook in mid-air (without latching on to anything) to perform a swing. However, if there are Coilgrass Sigils nearby, his grappling hook will automatically target the Coilgrass Sigils and latch on to them instead.

This mechanic works the same as the Yumkasaur's grappling mechanic, with Coilgrass sigils always being prioritized as grapple targets as long as they are in the vicinity.

Kinich's Elemental Skill is not used while latching on to Coilgrass Sigils using his grappling hook, so it does not go into cooldown. You can use this to your advantage by combining mid-air grappling with Kinich’s Elemental Skill and grappling to Coilgrass Sigils (without using his Elemental Skill) to traverse large distances with ease.
