Octane in Apex Legends is one of the fastest Skirmishers in terms of movement speed. His ability kit revolves around being able to move faster than others. While his tactical ability is a stim that temporarily consumes his health and provides him with a massive speed boost, his passive regenerates health in small increments. Octane’s ultimate ability deploys a jump pad that the entire team can use to enjoy a jump boost and perform a second jump mid-air.

Considering Octane's speed and agility, you should definitely counter him before things get out of hand. This article will highlight the most effective counters for Octane in Apex Legends.

What are the best characters to counter Octane in Apex Legends?

Here is a list of characters that you can pick in Apex Legends to counter Octane:

1) Pathfinder

Pathfinder is a Skirmisher legend in EA’s battle royale who can use his tactical ability to use a zipline for quick relocation. This grapple ability is perfect for catching up to Octane players during chases and gunfights. Although the cooldown is quite long, it does not take away a chunk of health like Octane’s tactical. However, you would need to use Pathfinder’s tactical wisely to avoid being caught up in dangerous situations.

Pathfinder’s ultimate ability creates a long zipline between two points. This can be used to help the team reposition whenever the zone moves. Alternatively, it can be used to initiate team fights and take control of high-ground areas like mountains or building roofs. It can also be used to chase solo members of enemy squads across the map for easy kills.

2) Revenant

Revenant is another Skirmisher in Apex Legends and has a lunge ability as his tactical. This is a powerful tool that can be used to initiate fights and retreat from risky scenarios. It can be used to pounce on unsuspecting Octanes and catch them off-guard. This is a great way to score a few quick eliminations.

Revenant’s ultimate ability creates a temporary shield around him that automatically regenerates over time when out of combat. It is a useful ability that can shine if you are engaging in a team fight. Octane players generally play around their speed boost ability so it can be difficult to track them. This is where your recharging shield can help you win fights as you would not need to manually do it during combat.

3) Fuse

Fuse is an Assault character in Apex Legends. His tactical ability, Knuckle Cluster, is a sticky grenade that can be deployed to stick on enemy character models and deals ticking damage over time. Since Octanes need to sacrifice a percentage of their health when stimming, you can stick one of these grenades to chip away at their shields — making them easy targets in a gunfight.

Fuse’s ultimate ability is a great way to trap opponents and force them to either remain inside the circle of fire or use an ability to get out. Most teams would prefer deploying a jump pad inside the circle to escape, limiting their repositioning options after getting out. You can then chase the team and initiate another team fight.

4) Ash

Ash is also an Assault legend and has arguably the best trap ability. Her tactical ability can attach itself to the ground and any nearby enemies in a small area. This limits the opponent’s ability to move around freely and can catch Octanes in the open since they cannot take advantage of their stim ability.

In most situations, Octane players prefer to use a jump pad and escape if their team gets knocked down. This is where you can make use of Ash’s ultimate to create a one-way portal toward Octane and catch up with ease.

5) Seer

Seer is a Recon character in Apex Legends. Although the pick rate for this legend has gone down considerably in Season 23, he occupied the meta spot in a few previous seasons. His tactical ability can be used to highlight enemies through walls while stunning them and locking their abilities briefly. If you can hit an Octane with this, you can choose to push in and target this high-speed character while his stim is disabled.

Seer’s ultimate ability creates a detection sphere around the target area. Any enemies moving within this area are constantly detected, making it easy for your team to rake in a few eliminations. However, this ability is visible from a long distance so you should be wary of other enemy teams trying to catch you off-guard.
