MultiVersus is returning almost a year after the open beta was taken offline. The free-to-play title features a giant roster of Warner Bros characters, such as Superman from DC, Shaggy from Scooby Doo, and Bugs Bunny from Looney Tunes. This huge roster means all the characters play very differently from one another, making it challenging for new players to understand the game mechanics.

If you are a newbie planning to jump into this new 2D fighter, we’ve compiled a list of 5 best beginner-friendly MultiVersus characters as your gateway into this game. This way, you can learn about these characters and climb higher ranks.

Note: This list is subjective, reflects the author’s opinions, and is not in any particular order.

5 MultiVersus characters who are great for new players

1) Shaggy

Starting our best Multiversus character list is Shaggy. The thing about Shaggy is he has pretty much everything baked into his kit. This means you can easily familiarize yourself with almost all of the fighting mechanics of the game while handling a character that is easy to use.

You can get the combos started with simple key combinations and deal a decent amount of damage. He also has a projectile attack that is very useful for maintaining distance or knocking down airborne opponents, especially when they are trying to re-enter the arena.

One thing to keep in mind about Shaggy is that he’s not very good at recovering, as he lacks the proper maneuverability required to escape some tricky combos. While it isn’t really a drawback for the character, it is somewhat of a trade-off.

2) Finn the Human

Finn was one of the most popular characters in the MultiVersus open beta and it's not wrong to see why. He uses a sword and has a fairly long range which allows him to chain up combos quickly.

A mechanic exclusive to Finn is that whenever you land hits, you collect gold coins that can be spent to buy new equipment mid-battle. It becomes really useful in getting your weapon back in case you throw it at the opponent or lose it due to knockdown.

Finn is also relatively fast and has better recovery speeds than Shaggy, so escaping throws and jumping back into the platform with him feels better.

3) Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman is another character on our MultiVersus list. She’s a well-balanced character who possesses great long-range abilities and powerful close-range sword combo setups.

Her unique mechanic is a whip throw that travels almost half the arena on some stages. The whip can pull in opponents to increase the duration and damage of your combos or you can pull them into arena hazards.

Learning to use her whip with her sword is this character's strength. While understanding the creative usage of her whip will require some experience and practice, properly using the whip will result in some fun, hilarious knockdowns.

4) Bugs Bunny

In MultiVersus, Bugs Bunny brings what he is loved for, traps. Bugs relies on traps and setups to perform a majority of his knockdowns. While his baseball bat can chain some impressive combos, they’re mostly used to lure your opponent into any of the field hazards or traps laid by him.

You can easily dig a hole and escape or teleport behind your opponent, launch a rocket projectile to push your opponent off the stage, or chain up melee combos in between to keep your opponent guessing.

In a nutshell, Bugs Bunny has a lot of potential with a straightforward and damaging kit. However, mastering him will require you to get creative with his abilities on the battlefield.

5) Jake the Dog

Jake is one of those characters in MultiVersus that is fairly easy to learn to use but becomes even stronger as you master him. He has a lot of straightforward combos that can deal a lot of frontloaded damage.

He brings fast maneuverability and long-ranged punches and kicks that can keep your opponent at bay. His unique mechanic turns him into a horse, which works as a great escape tool if you find yourself stuck in a combo.

Overall, his kit is built as a melee brawler but contains many long-ranged moves, so you can hit your opponent from a distance while they struggle to close the gap.

There are many characters in MultiVersus to choose from. The five on this list are the ones we think are great choices for beginners based on their ease of use and abilities. That said, feel free to learn and enjoy the characters you like playing with.
