5 Cricket 07 glitches that will leave you in splits

Cricket 07 is the most recent cricket release from EA Sports (Credits:planetcricket.net)

EA Sports has been releasing games for decades, and Cricket 07 is one of its golden releases. A very popular game among cricket fans, Cricket 07 also has a third party developer base that keeps releasing patches every now and then.

The original game has the English County tournaments like the NatWest Pro40 and Twenty20. It also has the Ashes mode which unlocks Ashes movies upon completion of all the scenarios.

EA has the licensing only for South Africa, New Zealand, England and Australia’s player names and kits. All other teams have generic player names but then you can always change their names or add your own roster by creating a player.

The bad part about games from a time like 2006 is that they come with glitches and bugs, especially after third party patches are installed. Sometimes these glitches seem like a godsend for gamers to create a high score, but at other times they just provide entertainment.

#1 When your batsman loses his sense of direction

Misunderstandings between two batsmen while running between the wickets is not unheard of but for a PC game to have such a glitch is just amusing. A common glitch in Cricket 07 occurs when the ball is in the air and the camera pans on it while you are running between the wickets. Either both the batsmen will end up at one end or the batsman on strike will go and stand behind the stumps after taking a run.

In the video above you can easily see one batsman running while the other looks disoriented and confused as to what is happening.

#2 When the player thinks the stumps are too far

In cricket, you usually throw the ball towards the wicketkeeper or bowler after fielding it. But in the case of a runout, you would throw it directly on the stumps. Real life cricketers are trained to hit the stumps with the ball from a distance, but EA players sometimes, in an act of foolishness, decide to throw it towards the player closest to the stumps.

This seemingly minor glitch has bothered many gamers in different ways and there seems to be no workaround. The good thing is that this glitch does not occur very frequently. AI can be funny sometimes and the video above is proof of just that.

#3 When ‘mine’ has no meaning

Games can be strange at times due to the instructions that players have to follow. Players in the game are programmed to see the ball and jump towards it. Pretty simple instructions to follow, but then what if there are two of them standing at the same place and nobody calls out ‘mine!’? In real life cricket, players crashing into each other is just bad training but in Cricket 07 it is a daily routine. Oh, and they don’t mind it too.

So, the bowler bowls the ball and the batsman misses his shot. I’ll let the video explain what happens when the wicketkeeper and the fielder at slip dive for the same ball.

#4 When the keeper forgets to hit the stumps

So, you bowl the ball, the batsman hits a square cut and your fielder fields the ball with swiftness and throws it towards the keeper for a run-out. In real life, the player can directly hit the stumps, or the wicketkeeper will attempt a stumping.

But when you play Cricket 07, this is not the case.

The keeper decides to procrastinate after catching the ball thrown at him and just seems lost while the batsman seems determined to win the match for his side as can be seen in the video. This glitch doesn’t show itself that often but then when it’s on tape it is quite funny to look at.

#5 When your whole screen is a glitch

Cricket 07 has various third party mods and patches that you can add to enhance the experience. One such popular patch is the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 developed by a2 Studios, which comes with numerous bugs and glitches.

Auto-shutdown of the game, unable to save replays, no replays after boundaries or wickets is a common problem faced after installing patches. Bowlers bowling 12 overs in a match, no appeal for LBW and catches and batsmen falling on the stumps with no repercussions are some of the in-game glitches.

Not everyone faces these glitches and different patches might have different problems.

So what do you do in this case? Nothing. Either wait for a new patch, or just keep playing the way you were till now.
