5 expectations from the Natlan update
Fans have been debating various theories that could come true in Natlan well before the official teaser for the region was even released. These are some of the most popular rumors/theories in discussion:
1) Pyro archon's identity reveal: is she Himeko Murata?
While any official link between Honkai Impact 3rd's Himeko Murata and the Pyro archon doesn't exist, fans have long speculated that the archon of the Pyro nation could likely be Himeko Murata or at least some alternate universe version of her.
Murata's existence in Genshin has been confirmed by Venti in the 'Songs of the Wind' webtoon. In a dialogue with Venessa, Venti says she might be a Muratan, due to her flaming red hair. Venti also addresses the Pyro archon as the 'Lady of Fire' and 'Lady of War'.
In Honkai Impact 3rd (as well as Honkai: Star Rail), Himeko Murata is also a lady with fiery red hair who can wield fire. After the Natlan trailer revealed Mavuika having the same flaming red hair, the Pyro Archon-Himeko theories are once again being talked about among fans.
Both fans who believe in this theory and skeptics will have to wait till the Natlan story unfolds to see how much of it comes true.
2) Bennett's lore: does he hail from Natlan?
Many expect more details regarding Bennett's true identity once the Natlan story is in full swing. There have been quite a few popular theories on how Bennett might actually be from Natlan, mostly drawing from his character stories and resemblance to Iansan.
Besides the white hair and the band-aid/strip on the nose, Bennett and Iansan also share the same green eyes. While this might be a coincidence, it can turn out to be something more lore-related.
This theory is further supported by the fact that Bennett is not originally from Mondstadt, but was instead adopted by adventurers who found him in a fiery, scorching area. The name of the area was never mentioned, but the description of it being engulfed in flames suggests it could have been in Natlan.
Only after this region has been released will players be able to ascertain this theory.
3) La Signora's resurrection
The storyline of every nation in Teyvat is intricately linked to the appearance of one or multiple Fatui harbingers. Signora's first appearance was in Mondstadt, then in Liyue, and finally in Inazuma, where she was defeated and killed by Raiden Shogun. Despite her being officially dead, fans expect to see her resurrected, quite possibly in Natlan.
Despite the lack of any direct connections tying Signora to Natlan, she has many motifs of fire both in her appearance as well as her powers. Additionally, Signora's visual representation is a flaming moth, while her surname Lohefalter (from her original name Rosalyne-Kruzchka Lohefalter) means fire/blaze butterfly in German.
Reputed Genshin Impact leakers — such as @ProjectENKA1 — have stated that almost all the Fatui harbingers will most likely be playable. This information, coupled with Natlan's theme being 'Incandescent Ode of Resurrection', might point to La Signora's revival in the upcoming region.
4) The burning Irminsul tree: will Dottore come back?
Despite the teaser of "A Winter Night's Lazzo" giving players a glimpse of Il Dottore burning down the Irminsul tree, that scenario has not come to pass yet. Dottore made an appearance in Sumeru to claim the Dendro gnosis, but he left leaving the Irminsul tree intact.
In a talk held by Xiao Luohao, head of the Genshin Impact creative concept and writing team, he mentioned that the storyline with Dottore burning down the Irminsul tree hadn't happened yet and that it was future content.
With fire being the theme of the Pyro nation, fans can expect this part of the story to take place in Natlan. This would mean Dottore's re-appearing in the game, which fans can look forward to.
5) Next playable harbinger: Capitano or Columbina?
Capitano will be officially appearing in Natlan, as showcased in the Genshin Impact Natlan trailer. While leakers are of varied opinions regarding his playable status, there will be a new playable harbinger released in this region. The list of playable harbingers in Genshin Impact so far includes Wanderer — technically not a harbinger anymore — and Arlecchino.
Meanwhile, other leaks suggest Columbina will be the next Fatui harbinger making an appearance in the main Natlan story. Fans expect at least one playable harbinger to arrive in the upcoming region. It remains to be seen whether that will be Capitano, Columbina, or someone else entirely.
