Emilie is a 5-star Dendro sub-DPS character released in version 4.8 of Genshin Impact. Her kit focuses on Burning reactions, and she works very well as an off-field sub-DPS in a variety of team compositions. Emilie is a polearm user, with her signature weapon Lumidouce Elegy being her best-in-slot weapon.

Playing Emilie is relatively easy, given her simple rotations and playstyle. Regardless, players may often make inadvertent mistakes while playing or building Emilie. That said, read on to learn about five mistakes you should avoid with Emilie in Genshin Impact.

5 mistakes that you should avoid with Emilie in Genshin Impact

1) Building her with incorrect artifacts

Given most DPS/sub-DPS characters don't generally need a focused 4-piece set, you might assume the same of Emilie and give her a 2-piece ATK%/2-Piece Dendro DMG artifact set. This is a mistake, however, and doing so could significantly reduce her damage output.

The 4-piece Unfinished Reverie set is Emilie's best artifact set, tailored specifically to cater to her off-field Burning reaction-focused kit. Make sure you farm a dedicated 4-piece set for Emilie, as equipping any other artifact set would reduce her damage potential.

2) Ignoring her Burning-oriented kit

With Emilie being a good Dendro damage dealer, you might think of putting her in Bloom, Quicken, or Aggravate teams, as these Dendro-oriented teams can generally deal massive damage. However, Emilie isn't supposed to be played this way. While she will still deal decent damage with good artifacts and a good weapon, a huge chunk of her DPS potential will be lost.

This is because Emilie's entire playstyle revolves around triggering Burning reactions and dealing increased damage against enemies affected by said reactions. Her kit talents, passives, best-in-slot artifact set, and even her signature weapon all revolve around Emilie's Burning-oriented playstyle.

This means Emilie will perform the best when paired with Pyro characters who can help trigger these Burning reactions. Putting her in non-Burn teams will vastly reduce her damage potential. You can play her in different team comps, of course, but completely ignoring her Burn gameplay mechanics would be a big mistake.

3) Using her Elemental Skill incorrectly

Emilie's Elemental Skill lets her create a Lumidouce Case which deals AoE Dendro DMG. When nearby enemies are affected by Burning, they give off 'Scents', which the Lumidouce case collects. Once the Lumidouce Case has collected two Scents, it will become a Level 2 case and deal increased AoE Dendro DMG over a larger area.

Since Emilie's Elemental Skill has a cooldown of 14 seconds, and the Lumidouce Case itself has a 22-second duration, you can have 100% uptime on her skill just by refreshing the case's usage. The problem with this strategy is that if you have a level 2 Lumidouce Case on the field and use Emilie's Elemental Skill to refresh/reposition the Lumidouce Case, the new Lumidouce Case will revert to Level 1.

To circumvent this, use Emilie's Elemental Burst which stows away any current Lumidouce Case on the field. Once her Elemental Burst has ended, the previously stowed away case will be automatically re-summoned to Emilie's current position on the field. You can use this technique to ensure that Emilie's Lumidouce Case is always at a higher level so she can deal increased damage to enemies.

4) Building Emilie with Elemental Mastery

Give Emilie a standard DPS build with an ATK% Sands, not an Elemental Mastery one (Image via HoYoverse)

This might be a common mistake to make since a lot of Dendro units (such as Alhaitham and Nahida) need Elemental Mastery to increase their damage/support potential. However, Emilie has no such Elemental Mastery requirements. She needs a standard DPS build with an ATK% Sands, a Dendro DMG Bonus Goblet, and a Crit Rate/Crit DMG Circlet.

Emilie's main damage source comes from her Dendro DMG which scales off her ATK and Crit Rate-Crit DMG ratio. Elemental Mastery does not directly affect her kit in any way. Any additional DMG that Emilie can gain from building her with Elemental Mastery is not worth sacrificing the ATK%, Crit Rate, and Crit DMG.

5) Making the wrong choice between her C1 or R1

If you have enough funds and are struggling to decide whether to pull for her signature weapon Lumidouce Elegy or her C1 Constellation, you might be tempted to choose the former. However, this might be a mistake depending on the weapon options you currently have for her.

If you already have a good alternative 5-star Polearm (such as Staff of Homa or Calamity Queller) that Emilie can use, going for her R1 signature weapon will not give you a huge damage increase over what she can already achieve with other 5-star weapon options. In this case, her C1 Constellation will prove more valuable.

However, if you don't have a good 5-star Polearm and only have the 4-star gacha/free-to-play weapon options, going for R1 and equipping her with her signature weapon would be the better choice.
