5 mistakes to avoid with Aventurine in Honkai Star Rail
1) Team with HP-scaling DPS
As of writing, the HP-scaling DPS in Honkai Star Rail relies on losing health to deal damage. This applies mainly to Blade, as he needs to lose HP five times to unleash his follow-up attack, which is a crucial ability of his kit.
Teaming with Aventurine will only hinder his playstyle since it limits his opportunity to build up stacks when all the incoming damage is being mitigated by a shield.
You are better off using Fu Xuan with HP scaling units since she is the only Preservation character without any shielding abilities. Instead, her kit comprises a damage mitigation mechanic.
2) Overinvest in DEF stats
Overinvesting in a particular stat isn’t a good thing for any character, and the same applies to Aventurine in Honkai Star Rail. Although his kit scales heavily on DEF, you should avoid stacking the same stat. Instead, prioritize attributes like SPD or Effect Res to effectively use him in the battle.
Here, SPD is an important stat since you will want to take turns frequently to stack more barriers. More often than not, bosses will take multiple turns in a row where having more speed is highly beneficial.
3) Use double sustainer characters
Aventurine is one of the best sustainer characters in Honkai Star Rail, capable of being a solo tank across various team compositions. Using another character that serves the same purpose is excessive, and you are better off employing an individual who can boost the damage of the DPS units.
Nevertheless, surviving the enemy onslaught in endgame content like Simulated Universe Swarm Disaster can be extremely difficult. In that case, pick up double sustainer characters to stay alive in the domain.
4) Activate Ultimate frequently
Aventurine’s Ultimate ability in Honkai Star Rail is a powerful counterplay tool, so you should avoid using it frequently. Always wait for the right opportunity (which is typically before the DPS characters take turns) to secure maximum damage.
When the ability hits a target, it increases the CRIT DMG received by them. This can indirectly make elite opponents vulnerable to the attacks of hypercarry units that are usually built with CRIT stats. This category includes characters like Imbibitor Lunae, Acheron, and more.
5) Running a DPS build
One of the mistakes to avoid while playing Aventurine includes running him on a DPS build. While his follow-up attacks have the potential to deal decent damage, it is best to use him as a tank unless you have his Eidolons or signature Light Cone.
His damage scales primarily on DEF, but you will have to stack CRIT stats to make it work. This calls for sacrificing his shield strength, which isn’t worth doing when the game has a solid DPS roster to use.
