5 reasons to play Phasmophobia in 2025

1) Become a paranormal investigator

Kinetic Games wanted to give the gaming community a first-hand experience of what seasoned paranormal investigators are going through regularly. Players must stay alert and watch out for random ghost encounters, which Phasmophobia is renowned for.

Before selecting a job, hunters can review a contract to determine the best ghost-hunting equipment to bring along and make certain adjustments to the difficulty. Some jobs are easier than others; however, as a hunter builds their reputation, players should prepare for an even greater challenge.

2) Realistic ghost-hunting equipment

It wouldn't be a paranormal investigation without the necessary equipment. Other ghost hunters, such as Sam and Colby, heavily invested in the proper gear to capture convincing evidence. Devices like the EMF reader, spirit box, flashlight, UV light, and thermometers can help communicate with ghosts.

These devices are hard to come by in real life, and not everyone has the luxury of using them. Sometimes these gadgets tend to spout nonsensical answers; however, it could be easily overlooked that this is a way for the spirits to make contact and throw the hunter off course.

3) VR capability

The developers released the game on PC a few years earlier than the console versions, and they've had enough time to optimize the title on VR headsets. While the first-person perspective is already scary enough, it's a much different experience on a VR headset as investigators walk around the site and let the tension build.

4) Level design

The horror element is something most game developers have perfected. The pitch-black environment can induce intense fear, and players must make do with limited visibility from a flashlight to light their way. Other levels like Sunny Meadows and the Asylum are rich in detail, and hunters can explore the area to get the full psychological experience.

Unlike other horror games like Resident Evil, where players can kill their enemies, hunters can't harm the ghosts while staying alive until the investigation has been concluded with the evidence they have collected. Great horror games are rare nowadays, and Kinetic Games wanted players to share this experience with friends.

5) Co-op experience can lead to hilarious moments

Ghost hunting is not for the faint of heart, and while it may look scary, sometimes these investigations can go swimmingly with the right group of people. Players can prank each other while looking for clues and set each other up as bait for the ghosts and random jumpscares.

Other than leading to funny moments, having more people around can reduce the tension and even speed up the investigation. With the right people, the search for convincing evidence will be narrowed down, and the chances of survival are much higher than going in alone.
