Why you should play The Outer Worlds in 2025
1) A unique setting
The Outer Worlds follows an alternate timeline where US President William McKinley wasn't assassinated, leading to a corporatized, class-centric, futuristic society set in the Halcyon star system in 2355. You play as The Stranger, who wakes up decades after a catastrophe to find himself embroiled in a deep conspiracy that threatens the very existence of the Halcyon.
The title features many settlements, like the abandoned one at Cascadia, the Halcyon capital of Byzantium, and the morally bankrupt outpost of Fallbrook. Each of the game's regions has a unique background and culture, which all feel engaging to explore.
2) A reactive world
Obsidian Entertainment is known for its ability to create a vast and reactive game world. Players can approach the various objectives of The Outer Worlds in unique ways, whether it is through talking things out, sneaking past guards, or channeling their pugilistic intent. However, what's most impressive is how reactive the world is.
Players can make a variety of choices throughout the game, each with their consequences. The stats that you initially put points into will also affect your playthrough, sometimes even opening up new paths to your objectives.
3) A visually engaging art style
The Outer Worlds has an incredible art design. It feels like a blend of the studio's past ventures, Knights of the Old Republic II and New Vegas. The game provides a vivid, colorful, and detailed visual experience, thanks to its retro-futuristic themes and art nouveau inspirations.
In addition, The Outer Worlds' setting adds to the visual appeal as its universe-spanning futuristic world provides a unique backdrop for the game's colorful graphics.
4) Many interesting things to explore in the game
The Outer Worlds features a group of big planets connected by a hub world. The Halcyon is still every bit as immersive as the other greats of the RPG genre. The world has many weapons to hunt, quest items to obtain, junk to discover, and armor to find.
Hidden within the regions of the game are various side quests. Many missions start simple but quickly get complicated, such as one that begins with you searching for a late employee and ends with the discovery of a heinous secret within an unassuming family.
5) Something to play while waiting for the sequel
The Outer Worlds 2 is one of the most anticipated RPGs in 2025. Obsidian Entertainment hasn't specified any release date for the sequel, as the studio's FPS venture, Avowed, launches on February 18, 2025.
To shorten the wait, players can revisit the first game to refresh their familiarity with the franchise and get a better idea of what to expect from the sequel.
