Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be released on October 31, 2024. Developed by the industry's veteran developers, BioWare, the title will be the first entry in the main-line franchise since the release of 2014's Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Before the launch of the game, many have expressed doubts and asked questions regarding the title, such as it's approachability, the connection to the previous entries in the series and more. With that in mind, here are five things to know before the launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Five things to know about Dragon Age: The Veilguard

1) The game's placement within the timeline of the franchise

The game is the fourth entry in the main-line franchise, excluding DLCs, browser games, and other lore-accurate mobile games and spin-off entries. The game was originally called Dragon Age: Dreadwolf but the title was changed earlier this year to the current name. The game will be a direct sequel to 2014's Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is slated to launch on the PlayStation 5, PC, and the Xbox Series X and S on October 31, 2024. Unlike its predecessor, there will be no ports for eighth-generation consoles, namely the PS4 and Xbox One. The game will also be playable offline.


3) The location of the game's campaign

The game will be set in Thedas, where the player's character will fight against many powerful and tactful foes. The game's campaign is centered around saving Thedas and the characters that reside within it and reclaiming control of the lands.


4) No requirement to have played the previous games to understand the campaign and story

Though great games in their own right, there is no necessity for players to have played all three of the previous games to understand the game's story. The game can be played as a stand-alone title in the franchise while some former characters from the franchise may appear across the campaign, the feature to import previous games' worlds into the new games is not available.


5) Character customization with multitude of options

The game will include a detailed character creator, within which, the player can choose the lineage of their character. They can also pick the class, modify their appearance, and much more. Depending upon the faction chosen, there will be slight differences in gameplay.
