5 things that we would like to see in a God of War (2005) remake

God of War is a hack-and-slash franchise that started back in 2005 on the PlayStation 2. The game revolved around Greek mythology, and players got to step into the shoes of Kratos, an angry young spartan seeking revenge from the God of War Ares, responsible for manipulating the protagonist into killing his own family.

The storyline of the first title stuck with the gaming community, so much so that God of War became a franchise with the release of two sequels and spin-offs for the PlayStation Portable.

Even though the franchise has been rebooted now, players of the original games, from the PlayStation 2 and 3 era, miss the Greek saga. While the Norse saga is in a league of its own, there is no denying that the Greek saga made Kratos one of the most loved characters in the gaming community.

Santa Monica Studio gave players a few glimpses of the Greek games in the Valhalla DLC. The expansion made older fans nostalgic and ignited hopes of a remake being in the works for the original titles from the PlayStation 2 generation.

5 things we would like a God of War (2005) remake to have

1) Upgraded graphics

The first God of War was released for the PlayStation 2. While the console was not the most powerful in the market, it still made the original title look gorgeous. However, the game doesn't look as good as it used to because of the standards set by today's releases.

If a remake is in the works, we would like to see modern graphics for the latest PlayStation console in the form of more detailed environments and character models.

2) No more QTE's

God of War (2005) featured various boss fights, where the player would have to rely on quick-time events (QTEs) to kill the monsters in the final phase. This mechanic felt very cinematic in the early 2000s. However, times have changed, and this mechanic now feels outdated.

In the remake, we would like to see the removal of QTEs for an actual gameplay finish to a boss fight or an actual cutscene.

3) Retain the blood and gore

The original God of War was popular on the PlayStation 2 because it featured a lot of blood and gore. However, in the reboot, players noticed that the amount of violence has been reduced.

In the remake, we would like to see Santa Monica Studio retain the level of blood and gore from the original games while making it more realistic.

4) Return of fixed camera perspective

The shift from Greek to Norse lore resulted in the camera mode changing from a fixed perspective to a third-person view. God of War (2018) director Cory Barlog took the camera behind Kratos to make players feel close to the story. However, this resulted in the series losing its cinematic charm.

We would like to see this charm return in the remake in the form of the fixed camera.

5) Bring back TC Carson

The God of War reboot replaced TC Carson as Kratos with Christopher Judge. While Judge made the character feel more mature and sensible, Carson gave Kratos the angry personality he was known for in the Greek saga.

Even though we love both the voice actors' work, we would love to see TC Carson return as Kratos in a remake.
