X-Men Origins Wolverine was released on the sixth and seventh generation of consoles — including the PlayStation 2 and 3 — in 2009. The PlayStation 3 version is often hailed as the best X-Men game in the gaming community. The title featured a lot of blood and gore which was something movie tie-in games lacked at the time.

Cut to 2024, Insomniac Games is also working on a Wolverine game for the PlayStation 5. Fans are expecting developers to take inspiration from X-Men Origins Wolverine because of its heavy emphasis on high-octane action and violence.

We are also getting Deadpool and Wolverine in a few days which has reignited interest for a Wolverine game. While there's no news of a sequel, here are 5 things we would like to see in a potential X-Men Origins Wolverine follow-up.

A sequel to the 2009 Wolverine game could explore his relationships with other characters in the X-Men franchise. Players deserve to see Wolverine's character development through a heart-touching story similar to Logan's in 2015. This will help players connect with the characters better and understand the depth of Wolverine's inner struggles.

2) More blood and gore

For a PlayStation 3 game, X-Men Origins Wolverine features plenty of blood and gore which helps emphasize the violence. However, with modern technology and a focus on realistic graphics, the blood and kill animations can look more realistic than ever. This would also enhance the combat. In a possible sequel, players would like to see more brutal combat animations and gore in every mode.

3) New and iconic villains

The first game featured plenty of boss fights against some iconic characters from the X-Men universe such as Blob, Sabertooth, and even Deadpool. In the sequel, fans would like to see new villains taking on Wolverine, such as Mister Sinister, Omega Red, or even a new and improved version of Sabertooth. This will help keep the story fresh and introduce non-comic readers to series villains.

4) Action-packed sequences

X-Men Origins Wolverine was littered with numerous action sequences. These action set pieces still hold up today and players would like to see more of them if a sequel comes out. The game can feature fresh action sequences complemented by upgraded graphics.

5) Easter eggs

The sequel could incorporate easter eggs for eagle-eyed fans who love to explore extensively. This will grab the attention of all comic book fanatics and loyal Wolverine fans. However, this shouldn't take away from the main story. It can just feature as additional content players can stumble upon.

Conclusion

We haven't heard anything about an X-Men Origins Wolverine sequel in development. However, we do know that Insomniac is working on a stand-alone Wolverine game. These features can be incorporated to make it a closer experience to the 2009 game.
