The real world simulation levels of the GTA instalments have improved with every update of the game with GTA 5 being an exceptionally detailed representation of reality in a video game. Cars in GTA 5 can now be induced to leak gas that can later be set on fire to blow up unfortunate victims.

A sadistic way of killing someone in a car would be to first shoot the fuel tank which will start leaking fuel, which when lit, will lead to a Hollywood-esque explosion of the vehicle. If you happen to be in a sports car, you can even manage to light up your own gas trail with the sparks from your wheels and try to outrace it in a battle for survival.
