Best games on the PlayStation Plus (PS+) subscription service
1) Horizon: Forbidden West
Horizon Forbidden West is one of the top PlayStation 5 games. This title is the sequel to the beloved Zero Dawn. However, its launch was overshadowed by the release of FromSoftware's Elden Ring.
Nonetheless, Forbidden West is a terrific title that expands on the post-apocalyptic scenario established in Zero Dawn. Aloy travels outside of her tribe's borders to a place known as the Forbidden West, where she encounters additional machines. The title boasts a great plot with heartfelt moments accompanied by superb and fluent gameplay.
If you have a PlayStation Plus subscription, this is a must-have title.
2) Returnal
Returnal is a psychological horror title with a sci-fi setting. It follows the story of Selene Vassos, who lands on an uncharted planet and finds herself trapped in a time loop. The game is a third-person roguelike shooter, and players take control of Selene as she tries desperately to escape her situation in the hostile world of Astropos.
Returnal is considered one of the toughest titles available on the PlayStation platform, as each time Selene dies, the player has to start all over again.
Returnal is a great pick from the PlayStation Plus catalog if you are in the mood for a horror game this Halloween.
3) Spider-Man: Miles Morales
If you enjoyed the 2018 Spider-Man game and its sequel, Miles Morales, you must have completed the spin-off. If you didn't, you're in luck because the game is included in the PlayStation Plus subscription.
The gameplay remains the same, but the protagonist this time is Miles Morales from the first game. He is currently one of the wall-crawlers in New York City and has only recently begun his career as a superhero.
This title feels more like an expansion of the original game than a genuine spin-off, and if you want to avoid paying money for it, you can get it through your subscription.
4) Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection
Uncharted, Naughty Dogs' globe-trotting action-adventure series, came to an end with the fourth installment, A Thieves End. The game finally saw the franchise protagonist, Nathan Drake, retiring from his treasure-hunting life and settling down for good with his family. The plot is excellent as it sees Nate and his brother, Sam, searching for the long-lost pirate riches throughout Europe and Africa.
The Lost Legacy is a spin-off game that follows Chloe Frazer, one of the main characters from Uncharted 2, on an adventure in India.
The Legacy of Thieves compilation, including Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy, is one of the best titles available through the PlayStation Plus service.
5) Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
After the massive success of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy films, it was only a matter of time before the ragtag crew of misfits made their video game debut. Eidos-Montreal developed the title, which is regarded as one of the best superhero video games.
The banter between the Guardians is fantastic, and the visuals are stunning. The plot is also pretty interesting, with superb writing for each squad member.
If you haven't played this game yet, you can get it through the PlayStation Plus subscription program.
6) Doom Eternal
Gore, carnage, and an incredible musical score while killing demons; this is what Doom is all about. The series is as straightforward as it gets but has a wealth of lore.
The latest entry in the franchise, Eternal, delves more into the backstory of the Doom Slayer. The title also links the entire franchise. The gameplay is straightforward, as you use your enormous arsenal of weapons to shoot your way through swarms of demons.
Doom Eternal is one of the best first-person shooter games ever made, seamlessly blending old-school FPS principles with modern-day additions. It's included in the PlayStation Plus catalog.
7) Scarlet Nexus
In Scarlet Nexus, you play as either Yuito Sumeragi or Kasane Randall. The game begins with a delightful slice-of-life episode where you meet your colleagues with whom you will work. However, everything goes wrong soon, and the plot becomes darker.
Scarlet Nexus is one of the best JRPGs available, with an engaging story and two campaigns, one for each of the game's protagonists. Intermissions between missions allow you to learn more about each character while also providing fun and welcome pauses from the action.
Whether you already have a PlayStation Plus subscription or are looking forward to getting one, we hope this article was able to provide you with some insights on some of the most interesting games available in the catalog.
