Black Myth: Wukong was unbelievably hyped since its announcement. And it's safe to say that the game met every expectation. The title adapts the renowned Journey to the West, considered one of the greatest Chinese novels. It follows the Destined One, who tries to revive the Monkey King Sun Wukong.

The game looks absolutely stunning, officially marking the period when AAA games start utilizing Unreal Engine 5 to the fullest. The game brings the exotic locales of Chinese mythology to life with its incredible art style, even scanning real-life landmarks to include them in the game. The game also provides one of the most satisfying combat systems to date, imprinting Wukong's Staff in players' minds, making it one of the best no-nonsense action role-playing single-player games to release in 2024.

While Atlus is still producing its next venture, it didn't stop the developer from publishing one of the best single-player turn-based RPGs to their fans this year. Metaphor ReFantazio is Studio Zero's take on the acclaimed Atlus RPG formula. While the game takes inspiration from Atlus' last venture, Persona 5, it provides its unique touch to the genre.

The game takes place in the fictional realm of Euchronia, where the Protagonist, Will, gathers support to become the new King while trying to find a way to lift his childhood friend from a cursed slumber. The single-player narrative uses social simulation elements and time-sensitive events to insert drama into the campaign. Metaphor ReFantazio is a must-play for JRPG enthusiasts wanting to experience something new.

While the Prince of Persia franchise, created by Jordan Mechner, was dormant for a long time, Ubisoft decided to revive it in one of the riskiest yet most impressive ways, by creating a sidescrolling action platformer that focused on a new protagonist. The Lost Crown went against the developer's every principle to ensure commercial success, but in the process created one of the most creative, unique, exciting, and incredible single-player games the intellectual property would see.

Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth had incredibly big shoes to fill after its predecessor knocked it out of the park, and the game didn't disappoint. Final Fantasy 7's primary antagonists are the Shinra Corporation, currently tyrannizing over Midgar, and Sephiroth, who wants to unite with the planet's lifestream and attain godhood. The game picks up right after the events of Remake, focusing on Cloud Strife and his team of mercenaries trying to put an end to the two evil forces.

Rebirth manages to expand upon the fundamentals of its predecessor while maintaining the essence of its 1997 counterpart. Players wanting single-player games with incredible combat systems, loads of side-content, and an in-depth JRPG experience will not be disappointed by Rebirth.

Dragon's Dogma originally went under the radar but became a cult classic after the release of its enhanced version, Dark Arisen. And 12 years after the original's release, fans witnessed its sequel in its full glory. Hideaki Itsuno, the game's director, returned hot on the heels of Devil May Cry 5's success and created an uncompromising experience that rivaled the original.

While the game received criticism for its wonky PC port, it was an improvement over the original. The title rendered its predecessor's central mechanics in spectacular detail, providing an upgrade to that of the original. For players who want an action JRPG without any hand-holding and filled with finer intricacies, Dragon's Dogma 2 is one of the best single-player games to provide that experience.

Early access for Hades 2 was released in May 2024 and received unanimous praise. It had double the content of the original, filled with many meaningful and welcoming additions to the original's formula. The game has both the passion of its Godfather and the hindsight to avoid the latter's mistakes, making it a worthy successor to one of the best single-player games to release in recent times.

While the Silent Hill series was dormant for much time, Konami decided to revive it with a remake, like Resident Evil rebuilding its single-player games. Konami handed the responsibility of remaking the franchise's most famous installment, Silent Hill 2, to Bloober Team. The Polish game studio had big shoes to fill, and we're happy to report it was knocked out of the park.

The game faithfully recreated the original game's atmosphere in stunning detail, whether it's monsters, characters, or the town itself. The game also provides a facelift to the 2001 release's combat, which was janky at best. Players wanting single-player games with an unsettling atmosphere and incredible psychological horror narratives can revisit this one without hesitation.
