Video games have been a long-running medium of pop culture. Since its inception, the industry has seen the release of some incredible titles throughout the years. But as time passes, once-revolutionary technology becomes a relic of the past to audiences. Many legendary video games have lost their appeal due to the limited technology of that period, leading to some elements of the game becoming janky.
One of the best ways to port these prominent titles to the current period is to develop a faithful remake, and these games are ideal candidates.

7 video games that need a remake in 2025
1) God Hand
When it comes to third-person melee-focused video games, God Hand can be considered their Godfather. Directed by Shinji Mikami at Clover Studios, it featured an engaging, exhilarating, and complex melee combat system. However, while the game's combat is still unmatched, other aspects of the game have aged poorly.
Its graphics feel dated and its level design can be monotonous. But one of the biggest issues is its tank controls, which can take away from the otherwise fluid movement. A remake in a newer engine with an updated take on its controls and camera, like Sifu, can truly elevate God Hand to a melee-combat staple.
2) Spider-Man: Web of Shadows
While Spider-Man video games have been in great shape thanks to Insomniac's incredible Spider-Man series, an earlier title that could do with a remake is the impeccable Spider-Man: Web of Shadows. It has one of the best combat systems to date, where Peter Parker could fight on the ground, wall, and in the air, allowing for an extensive combat sandbox.
While Web of Shadows is already incredible, a remake can be an amazing endeavor that can fix the many issues plaguing the game, such as its terrible camera, which can be extremely janky when fighting on the walls, along with its bland open world that only had collectible items to fill its carcass.
3) Assassin's Creed
After audiences found the attempt to revert to the roots with Mirage underwhelming, Ubisoft is stuck between a rock and a hard place trying to hold on to the fans of both the divisions of its Assassin's Creed IP. However, one of the best ways it can bring the series back on track is through remaking the first entry into the franchise.
An Assassin's Creed remake can introduce the masterpiece to the current world, providing a fresh touch to the bland visuals of the original game. The world of the Holy Land rendered in a newer engine can further refine the already extensive and complex parkour system of the first title, along with providing a much-needed overhaul to its combat.
4) Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
Sticking to the topic of Ubisoft video games, another dormant franchise the studio can breathe new life into with a remake is Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. The second rodeo of Sam Fisher is an incredible venture that still holds up today, thanks to its unique locales and incredible art direction.
However, a Pandora Tomorrow remake can be a great way to add a sense of fluidity and polish, considering the first Splinter Cell's remake is currently in muddy watter. Pandora Tomorrow given the Splinter Cell: Blacklist treatment can be a breathtaking affair to think about, transforming the puzzle-like structure of the game into a true stealth sandbox.
5) Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
One of the older action-adventure video games that needs a remake is Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. During its releasem, it saw generally favorable reviews, praising the world and characters while criticizing the lack of depth of its combat system.
A remake treatment can provide a new lease to the game. A newer engine can provide a refreshing look to the visuals, removing the yellow filter that was prevalent in the mid-2000s, along with providing that added depth to the game's combat, especially taking inspiration from video games like Black Myth: Wukong.
6) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
An older title that has been consistently in consideration for the greatest video games of all time is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The first 3D venture of the Legend of Zelda IP is also considered its best. It received universal acclaim for its gameplay, level design, music, and story. However, the game has definitely shown its age, considering it was released in 1998.
An Ocarina of Time remake that ports the game to a newer engine along with an art style similar to either Twilight Princess or Tears of the Kingdom can provide a bump to the game's legendary status. A remake treatment that provides better visuals, framerates, control schemes, and camera control and eliminates some inconvenient elements can introduce a genre-defining game to a new generation.
7) God of War (2005)
The first God of War is an impeccable title that was host to universal appraisal at its release. The game pioneered a style of hack and slash that later spawned God of War clones. While the series eventually got better as it progressed, the title that can benefit the most from a remake is the first entry into the franchise.
God of War (2005), given a similar treatment to God of War III, can be catapulted to new heights. A remake can fix the many issues that make the game janky to play, such as the grab command often not targeting enemies, outdated visuals, some difficulty spikes, and bad camera angles, providing a polish to the original.
Seedin these video games remade in 2025 will give old and new fans of these franchises a lot to look forward to.
